Michele Farber
My name is Michele Farber and I’m originally from Marlboro, NJ. I am Sephardic and Ashkenazi. My father’s mother is from Poland. My fathers father is from Israel before it was even officially recognized as its own country.
My mothers parents are both from Egypt and moved to Israel in 1948. Both of my parents are from Israel and moved to New York in the early 1980’s.
I was raised by going to shul on Yom Kippur and celebrating the holidays. I didn’t grow up in a religious or Kosher household, but it was a household with Judaica all over, reminding me of my identity and what Judaism means to me. I speak Hebrew fluently and learned through my parents. In fact, Hebrew was my first language!
I have only been living in Manhattan for about 1.5 years and I am a pharmaceutical rep. I have a cute 10 year old Miniature Australian Shepherd named Summit. I go to Jewish events in order to meet Jewish friends, but especially a Jewish significant other. Going to JICNY has definitely made me feel excited and welcomed. I love that Jodi has reasonable age limits at her events and doesn’t just accept everyone who wants to come. She knows quality over quantity and I love that.
