Melissa Mahgerefteh
My name is Melissa Nirah Mahgerefteh. I am an American Persian Jew, born and raised in New Jersey. My parents were born in Iran and immigrated to the US before the Iranian Revolution. Both grew up with very strong Jewish roots, attending Jewish private schools in their respective cities. This solid foundation was a very important stepping stone for me and my siblings growing up.
Education was very important to my parents. Jewish education was paramount. Whether it be through Jewish organizations or continued one-on-one learning, it was instilled in us at a very young age that the best way to navigate through life was from the teachings of our patriarchs/matriarchs. I learned the importance of community, of giving back and emunah. Today, I practice the same in both my personal and professional life.
JICNY exemplifies the very essence of my upbringing. Founded by individuals who give daily of their time and personal learnings, I can confidently attest to the alignment of Jewish values and the JICNY organization. This organization gathers the Jewish community, globally, to connect, to teach, and to give. I am grateful to be part of the JICNY community.
