David Corwin
From Boston to Jerusalem
My name is David Corwin, and I grew up in a town outside of Boston. My grandparents were all born in the US, but their parents were all Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe. I grew up with one parent secular and one relatively observant Reform, but in adolescence I became interested in Orthodoxy, becoming fully observant finally in college.
I've known for a while both that I wanted to pursue academia (in pure mathematics) and that I wanted to move to Israel. After more then 10 years, I finally made aliyah after securing an academic job in Israel. I live in Jerusalem (although my job is elsewhere!) because of the many things going on, especially for young single olim. JIC in particular has been a great way to meet others like me in Jerusalem, and I've made some good connections through the JIC events I've been to.
