ABOUT THE SPEAKER, Dr. David Kaufman, Associate Professor, Dept of Religion at Hofstra.
Dr. Kaufman has a BA from Columbia in Hebrew language/literature, an MA from JTS in Jewish education, and his PhD from Brandeis in American Jewish history. He served on the faculty of the Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles from 2000-09, and for the past five years has been the Chair of Jewish Studies at Hofstra University.
David is now hard at work on his third, tentatively titled: Meshuga: A Guide to the Perplexed American Jew. An experienced teacher and lively speaker, Dr. Kaufman will share his thinking about the underlying historical causes of the challenges facing the American Jew today, the various manifestations of dysfunction and disarray in American Jewish life, as well as prescriptions for healing and resolution. As the book is in progress, Dr. Kaufman will be eager to hear your thoughts and responses to his provocative ideas about the contemporary Jewish condition.
