More details

In 1290 Edward I expelled the Jews from England; throughout the sixteenth century they returned to England surreptitiously. In 1655 they gained tacit approval from Oliver Cromwell and in 1664 official legal recognition from Charles II. What was life like for Jews in the first few decades after their return?

About the Speaker: Before commencing the post of assistant dean of Yeshiva College in May 2010, Brian Weiser was a professor of history at Metropolitan State College of Denver. Dr. Weiser has also taught at Columbia University, Rutgers University at Newark, the University of New Hampshire and Washington University. His research interests focus on the institution of monarchy in early modern Europe. He has published a book, "Charles II and the Politics of Access", and several articles on the representation of monarchy in early modern Britain. His current projects include a study of Merry Wives of Windsor in the light of the court of Elizabeth I and an analysis of how early modern monarchs appropriated biblical imagery.

Dr. Weiser obtained his BA from Columbia University and his PhD from Washington University in St. Louis.

The event promises to be fun. It takes place in a private home, we serve food and drinks and we hang out. Hope to see you soon !
