Tish B’Av at the Mon Night class: Reading of the Megillah Eicha followed by a class

Monday night, August 4th is Tish B'Av. The Tish B'av program will take place this week in lieu of the regular Monday Night classes.

Join JICNY as we join the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue, for the reading of The Megillah Eicha (Book of Lamentations) followed by a Tish B'Av sermon by the Rabbi Meir Soloveichik, The Rav of Congregation Shearith Israel, a very powerful and engaging speaker..

Tisha B’Av, the most solemn day of the Jewish calendar, commemorates the destruction of both the First and Second Temples in ancient Jerusalem. Over the years, this day has also come to remind us of other historic tragedies that have befallen the Jewish people.

Upon entering enter the Synagogue, people do not greet or say hello to one another in a jovial manner. Tish B'av is a 24-hour fast day and similar to a day of mourning. Many people will be sitting on low stools or on the floor.
